Social Media is expected to play a big role in the upcoming US elections and is now being used to try to predict the outcome of the nominations using social media measurement tools. The question is how much influence social media really has and if it can be measured and organized the way we want?

The Problem

More users are browsing the Internet using mobile phones and tablet PCs. This results in many different screen resolutions to be considered when designing a website. On mobile phones websites are usually displayed in a scaled down version which makes it harder to read and require the user to zoom into the content. Appearance on tablet PCs is usually held identical to the desktop version which is also not always ideal.

Typography can be one of the most challenging design elements when it comes to web and digital design. In the past, designers had to stick to a handful of fonts that would render consistently across websites which led to much frustration, for brand consultants and designers alike.

Why digital branding needs personalized fonts

With the growth of digital communication, digital...

In one of my earlier posts I was talking about the importance of creating compelling experiences for consumers and less pushy messaging even through social platforms. One company that has done this very well in my opinion is Skittles.

Skittles managed to combine social media channels and corporate branding over time and while you could say this is quite easy for such a colorful brand it is still a good example on how it can be done.

Businesses are starting to get into mobile apps but the problem is that it turns some of them away when they think they have to please everyone by covering all platforms across all devices. This is not exactly feasible. To figure out which app solutions work best, we have to look at other metrics such as mobile data usage and operating-system market share.

Clients are usually quite excited about iPhones and Blackberrys. Nokias and Symbians are almost never mentioned even though they hold the biggest market share in the Middle East.

The entire web is heading toward HTML5! And HTML5 brings a more economical way of creating rich user experiences across devices. This is not news, but something to remember from time to time.

Let’s take a step back for those who are not familiar with this technology. HTML5 is a new revision of the HTML standard and brings a couple of new features such as video support, geolocation and the “canvas” element that renders shapes and bitmaps – useful for pixel manipulations and other nifty effects.

Wait, wait, keep...

I like nice stuff. I guess everyone likes nice stuff. When I come across something I like, I can expect it will be imprinted in my memory for good. Think of your favorite movies, music albums or artists; you will always remember them.

However, lately I feel there is a lack of quality content being created in the region. It seems the focus has shifted from creating “compelling experiences that stick” to a “constant penetration” approach that relies on new forms of messaging.

We say that...

We recently hosted a workshop about social media and we started off with a burning question: should companies focus on their social media strategies or should they focus on their overall brand and marketing strategies?

Then again, should we consider social media as just another marketing channel or is it really changing the marketing scene?

The general agreement was that it does matter to an extent. It's the new "power to the people." As marketing shifts to engagement and adaptive strategies, social media becomes the channel...

This week someone asked me whether I thought people are losing human connection due to the fact that people are so hooked on their smartphones.

With the access to messaging services, chat, and social networks via mobile phones, people are more connected and updated about each others’ lives than ever before. If you think about how communication, especially across distances, was handled 10 years ago in comparison with today, a lot has changed significantly.

Today we get instant updates about our friends and families and we’...

The agency model is changing, but there is still plenty of misconception as to why that is. Many may believe that the uprising of digital agencies is slowly dominating the advertising space, stealing all the awards... oh and of course Facebook. But that’s not the case.

The shift is about the change we’re seeing in consumer behavior and about agencies reinventing themselves in order to remain useful. Since mass media is no longer the core of marketing, communication agencies have to adapt to changes in technology, media, and...
